Durango is a Colorado Summer Vacation and Winter Destination. In the summer, family vacations include a scenic ride on the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, whitewater rafting, an off-road jeep ride, a visit to a rodeo or one of the many other events, concerts and festivals taking place in this little cultural nook of Colorado. In the winter, most people vacation in Durango because it’s the home of Purgatory Ski Resort. There are also endless trails for cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. The Durango Silverton railroad also runs during the winter on a more limited schedule and will take you through the mountains for a winter wonderland expedition. 6 hrs from Denver (Get Directions)
