Leadville’s central location makes it an easy stop over to wherever you’re going on a Colorado getaway, summer vacation or winter vacation. There are also plenty of Leadville events and things to do to keep you in Leadville for a few days. Located at the base of Colorado’s two highest peaks (Mt Massive – 14,428ft and Mt. Elbert – 14,400 ft), Leadville is the highest incorporated city and the second highest incorporated municipality in the United State.
Leadville has the most colorful history of any Colorado town and that history lives on through Leadville events, stories, architecture and museums. In fact, Leadville boasts more museums per capita than anywhere else. The Mineral Belt trail is the gem of the area. The 11.6 miles of paved trail is ADA accessible with numerous trailheads and access points. The Mineral Belt trail hosts the Mineral Belt Mayhem, a fat bike race that takes place during the weekend of the Crystal Carnival and Ski Joring race. The Crystal Carnival and Ski Joring Race is one of the signature winter Leadville events taking place the first weekend of March. Watch skiers pulled by horses soar through downtown Leadville, making jumps and stabbing rings as they go – yes, it’s as zaney as it sounds.
One of the signature Leadville events taking place in the summer includes the first weekend of August. The Boom Days celebration has been taking place for over 60 years and is a festival recognizing Leadville’s rich mining history.
The Leadville race series is a premier Colorado sports event attracting athletes from around the world. It includes multiple biking and running Leadville events throughout the summer.
