FRESH FRIDAYS - West Side Story

Join us for evening of stories through music on this Fresh Friday* concert. Mined from the gorgeous songs of the musical West Side Story, Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances reimagines Shakespeare’s tragic lovers Romeo and Juliet in gang-plagued 1950s New York, while John Adams thrilling and disturbing “Doctor Atomic Symphony” (adapted from his opera Doctor Atomic) which seeks to portray the ambition and agony of Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer as he unleashed the power of the atom at the Trinity test site in 1945. Peter Oundjian, Conductor Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story” Adams: Doctor Atomic Symphony *Fresh Fridays: A concert experience – remixed. Start at 6:30 pm with an hour-long (intermission free) concert, and still have time to go out for post-concert dinner and drinks – the night is still young. NEW: If you are looking for an easy pre-concert dinning option, the Chautauqua Dining Hall will offer pre-concert concessions in the picnic pavilion south of the Auditorium prior to this concert.
